September 14, 2009 Marc Sinkow to Co-Chair Philly 100 "The Year of the Entrepreneur" Marc Sinkow, Magellan Group Member, Vistage Chair and Interim CFO of GFO Consulting, to Co-Chair Philly 100. The Philadelphia 100 is a merit based program. Only the fastest growing, privately-held companies in the Greater Philadelphia area are designated as the Philadelphia 100. Similar to the Inc. 500, the rankings are based on revenue growth over the past three years. There are some very specific eligibility criteria our nominees have had to achieve. Companies must be privately-held and headquartered in the 10 county region surrounding Philadelphia such as in Pennsylvania: Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia; New Jersey: Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Mercer; Delaware: New Castle county. More important than the basic criteria, Philly 100 nominees were selected out of over 700 nominated firms. The potential winners represent the best and the brightest from the entrepreneurial community in our region. The business owners have navigated their businesses through good times and challenging times, but all have proven the internal fortitude to reach for the heights and deliver businesses that separate themselves from the rest. Background: In 1988, a group of entrepreneurial supporters and professional service providers gathered at the Entrepreneurs' Forum of Greater Philadelphia to brainstorm about how to highlight the contribution of entrepreneurial companies to the region. The result of this brainstorm was the birth of the Philadelphia 100. The Philadelphia 100 is an annual project conducted by the: Entrepreneurs' Forum of Greater Philadelphia, Philadelphia Business Journal, Wharton Small Business Development Center. By tracking the fastest growing, privately-held companies in the Greater Philadelphia, we: help to spread the word about the economic vitality of the Greater Philadelphia region to spawn, support and grow a diverse group of businesses, place a spotlight on the 100 fastest growing, privately held companies which forms the backbone of the region's economy develop the business acumen of the region by sharing success stories, measure the economic impact these companies have on the economy, and collect vital information that can help elected officials and regional planners to meet the economics needs of the region and to provide an intelligent infrastructure to enhance growth. This year is a special year for the Philly 100 as this year’s event will launch 12 months of entrepreneurial events and activities across the region. Our "Year of the Entrepreneur" program will kick off at the Philly 100 Awards Gala in October and features Eagles quarterback and local entrepreneurial superstar Ron Jaworski who will MC the evening's festivities. This year 150 local business owners will be recognized and the top 100 firms will be announced at the awards gala. |
