What are we looking for in our members?
-
Position within their organization: Members must be a principal or senior executive within their firms. “Senior Executive” meaning they hold influence over corporate direction/decision making. People who “run their own business” within a larger company (i.e. financial planners with their own “book of business”) would not be either principals or senior executives.
-
Industry: For a well balanced group, members and member candidates must not be in direct competition with other members. Questions about potential conflicts should initially be directed to the tenured member(s) in question with the membership committee involved only when a “judgment call” may be necessary.
-
Experience: Members should possess some depth of experience within their industry, or at least business in general. Young founders of recent start-up companies would most likely not fit, even though they may be a “principal” in their firm.
-
Influence: We’re looking for people with extended networks of deep, long-standing relationships in business, philanthropy, government, etc. The strength of the group is predicated on our members’ ability to “open doors”.
-
Market: Members should have a broad enough scope of business that they can add value to the group with their knowledge of and contacts in other industries and businesses from the region. People who work within a narrow niche (i.e. companies that only sell to hospitals) would probably not make a good fit, unless the niche is so commonly targeted that most of the group can benefit (i.e. selling to the “middle market”).
-
Commitment: Members are allowed to participate in other professional associations, but we discourage participation in groups with identical missions and structure, as well as involvement in so many associations that the Magellan Group could not possibly be a priority (no “professional networkers”).
To get started, please take a few minutes to complete the below submission form. Please also be sure to review our Code of Conduct as it illustrates the group’s expectations of membership. Upon review a representative from the Membership Committee will contact you regarding joining us as a Membership Candidate.
